Senior Session: Veronica

I got to meet Veronica a few weeks back for her Senior session at Mayfield Garden near Laguna Gloria. In between getting so startled I almost peed my pants from the sound of 'singing' (really screaming) peacock's and about three other photographers having sessions at the very same time...Veronica and I were able to get these great images! She's a super cool young lady who just happens to be going to my neck of the woods for college...Texas Tech..put yo gun's up!

Ok! I know....seriously I KNOW! I've been a horrible steward of the blogging world. I have about ten sessions in line to get on this thing and it's just a matter of making the time between my insane Groupon offer chaos and my amazing weddings coming up! "I can do it! I can do zzzzzz shng grld it!!"

This is a holiday session I did for the Burleson's and is the as promised successor of the previous post. This was a lot of people with a lot of love and personality! Each piece of the family definitely made up the sum! I hope you enjoy and I am off to schedule the next post to come out tomorrow!! Rolling with the Floyd's!

This was a session I did for the Floyd's visiting over the holidays from North Carolina. Super cute family! Even though I was told the kids would not want to be there I wouldn't have known it by how much they were hamming it up for the camera. It was a great morning with just them and then the full extended family came and we pushed through to lunch. The Burleson's will be posted next.

It's amazing to watch friends go through the transformation from just a couple with only themselves to care for into parents! I was very honored and excited to finally get to meet sweet baby Emi! She's adorable and so sweet. And it's hilarious and humbling to see my friends Nick and Liz take care of their little girl for the first time. Enjoy these images.

Jacob: Newborn

So here are the pictures from my newborn session with Jacob yesterday! He has a super sweet spirit and slept through the entire session practically. Once we got the right temperature he was out like a light and easily moved into some of these cute poses. Can't wait to see his images from his 6 month session.

For those expecting mother's, just know that I have packages that include maternity, newborn, and six month sessions. An easy way to avoid missing some of those precious moments!

Jen Yates: Maternity

I've had the good fortune of knowing Jen and Josh for a few years now and when I heard they were expecting their first child I thought...REALLY?? JOSH?? But knowing them both and especially how motherly I knew Jen to be I was nothing but joyous for them both. We waited and waited until the right time we figured we could get the maternity session scheduled.

It just happened to be when everything green was now brown and skies were more cloudy than clear. All that said, it was an awesome afternoon of farm jumping without permission and getting these gorgeous images of Jen and her soon to be baby boy, Jake!

Cathy and Ben : San Francisco Wedding

I got the chance to visit San Francisco to photograph a very wonderful wedding this past October. Cathy and Ben have lived two amazing lives so far and joined their futures together 'officially' at the amazing Marine's Memorial Club and Hotel in Union Square. Ben has served our country in many roles with most of them including stories that can't be retold..'or else he'll have to kill us'! Joking of course.

It was a wonderful blend of sophistication, honor, and knee slapping good times! A beautiful ceremony was just the beginning of an evening that included amazing speeches, young and old birthday celebrations, and a visit by a few members of the United States Marine Band. And all I have to say about that is AWESOME!!!

Laura and Blake : Wedding

I've let way too many events pile up this year without sharing them here with you. So I'm taking advantage of this coming time off from the corporate job to finally give you an update on the last half of my 2010. Seems fitting since we are only a few days away from leaping into 2011! Ouch..I'm not getting any younger.

This update is from an August wedding at Chapel Dulcinea with Laura and Blake. These two are super cute together and although Blake is a man of few words, he's a ham in front of the lens. I loved this wedding for many reasons..their humor, amazing family, care-free attitudes, and commitment to loving those we've lost. It was a day full of joy that ended at Trattoria Lisina at the now Duchman Family Winery.

I hope Laura and Blake all the best with their future and hope them and their families are having a wonderful Christmas evening tonight!

Reagan Family Session

Some of my dearest friends of all time are the Reagan's. I've known Jim through some amazing times in both our lives and now have the pleasure of being a part of capturing the history of their growing family. If you have followed this blog for the past year you would have seen this family's Christmas session from then. I recently did one with everyone and as you can see Abram is growing into quite a young man. These pictures are truly of people I call family. And I'm hoping you can see that there's not much difference between these and my other sessions. A few weeks back I got the chance to meet a super happy little man named Grafton! I couldn't find a way to get him to NOT smile! I love it when this happens and especially when the parents are just ok with letting them be happy and getting whatever images might come with that joy! These were shot in the Georgetown downtown square. I'm sure some of you will recognize the blue doors! Seems to be crazy popular spot since I had to wait in line behind two other photographers shooting sessions that same morning. Of course these images have never been shot like this!!! (smile & wink)

Coming out of the Thanksgiving holiday I was given some reminders of things to be thankful for. Sunsets, sunrises, cooler weather, college football victories, true friendships, lazy afternoons with naps and man's best friend by your side, fall colors, the smell of grilling on cold afternoons, and finally..the affirmation of God's great love and unwavering stance in his Will for my life. Now I just have to listen and do my best to follow.

Blue Eyes: Vaughn Family Session

Blue eyes!! That kind of blue that you can't stop staring at and just makes you feel like going to the beach. Having been born of the brown eyed pigment coalition I have found blue eyes some of the most amazing things to photograph. And when they are wrapped up in such adorable faces like these it just makes them even more precious. Riley, Madison, and Alexis are very proud owners of their parents hand me down blue eyes! These girls gave hugs the first time I met them and have such an amazing spirit and energy. It was a pleasure to photograph them and enjoy an afternoon with everyone. A few weeks back I got a call from a great photographer friend, Bill Alewine of Alewine Photography. He asked if I wanted to join in on shooting a model he had set up some trade work with. (That's photog lingo for each side gets free images to use in their portfolio) I've been wanting to get some time with a model so I could try some artistic posing and in a setting a little more structured than a wedding event. (I got to set up shots and get the emotion I wanted to see..vs the raw emotions of candids) I met Bill and Celeste downtown and we had a great time just cruising the streets and finding whatever looked cool. These are a few of the shots from that day and it's definitely something I'm going to be doing more of. Enjoy!

Senior Portrait: Jasmine!!

I got the chance to document what I'm sure will be a very successful young lady's last moments as a high school senior. Jasmine is a highly sought after athlete here in Texas and I'm thinking after the world see's her pictures here she may be sought after for some modeling. I met up with Jasmine and Tara (Mom) in Georgetown square and we had a good chance to talk, hang out, and oh yeah...take pictures. She's a wonderful young lady and I'm glad we got the chance to meet. Keep an eye out for her someday on the basketball courts in a town near you. She has a great family and supporting friends, so her future is very bright! I've known Josh and his siblings for over 10 years now and have seen them all grow into amazing adults and have their own families. When they had their son Dayton I got a chance to capture him as a baby and now you'll see below he's growing like a weed! I've started this list with some images from the original session with Dayton as a newborn. We had a great time with these guys this time around. It was a two family session with my last post the Kalina family. Both mom's are sisters and I actually shot a third sister's wedding a year ago. A few weeks back I got the chance to shoot two sisters and their families. It was a lot of people to keep up with but turned out to be a great day and I'm very happy with the images we turned out. Spent the morning down at Zilker park in downtown Austin and then turned it into a day of brunch and wine tasting! It's always great to have clients that you just connect with on a personal level and can hang out after the 'work' is done. So these are the first group of photos....Kalina family. Baby Harper!!

A very close friend of mine had her first child a little over a month ago. It's amazing to see your friends and family transform from having to care for only themselves into a selfless and loving parent. It's almost a complete transformation but in the most amazing and wonderful way. Miss Harper was ten days old when I got the chance to meet her and take these images for her parents Shelby and Justin! She's adorable and I fell in love with her through the process. It was a full day, but I think you'll see the work was well worth the reward. Enjoy!

Aileen and Albert:: Wedding

Mercury Hall was the location for January and Jeremy's laid back and casual wedding in July. The vintage dress that January wore was amazing and her groom rocked the guayabera shirt to the T! These two are some incredibly humble and good hearted people. I left each meeting with them so grateful to have met them. Both sides of families were amazingly fun and you couldn't miss the love they have for these two. I know their future is a bright and successful one. This was definitely one of the summer weddings to remember!

There are many things about being a photographer that are rewarding and life changing. I get to witness some amazing moments between a group of people that I most often have no connection to before we meet. And if I'm doing my job as best I can it's very hard not to become caught up in these special moments. And one of the greatest rewards of this job is when I get to meet some wonderful people and they become more than just clients. They become friends. Jessica and Josh have traveled this journey with me since I met her to shoot her head shots for her job. Jessica Bridal Portraits

I know it's been a little too long for the next post. So I'm going to try and make up for it with two posts tonight! Oh yeah! First and foremost is the debut of Jessica's bridal session from a while back. The wedding was a couple weeks ago and I'll be posting some of those in a couple days.

Jessica and Josh are super cute together and you'll see how in love they are when you see the wedding images. Josh is a guy's guy...West Point grad, active Army officer, collegiate football and minor league baseball, etc. So even though this is a post about Jessica I'd like to take a minute on the heals of the 4th to say thanks to Josh and his fellow military peers for keeping us FREE!

Now back to Jessica...we went to one of my favorite locations in Georgetown, Southwestern U. campus. The great architecture and her amazing dress complimented each other perfectly! I took maternity pictures for my friend Wendy and her family a couple months ago. I know...why has it taken me this long to post them? I can't really go into it here, but it boils down to just being a slacker!

Laila Simone is about 10 weeks old now and cute as a button! Here are a few of the 'expecting' images from our shoot. This was the first session with the in-home paper backdrops and studio lighting set up. There's a ton of learning to do with it, but these came out pretty well I think. Lilly was the highlight at the very end of the session when she showed some love to mommy's tummy and little sis'!

And when I attended a local wedding expo I met Katy and Justin behind a wedding design and event planning marquee. They call themselves Sweet Sunday, GREAT name!! Camping Fun!

The good news is I don't think I'm going to run out of blog post material for a while. I've been backed up on all the things I've been shooting lately and just trying to catch up these days. I got the chance to go camping with some of my most loved friends Jim and Kristi a few weeks back. It was a major family event with I think 5 families total camping for the night! Not only did we get serenaded by campfire with some acoustic classics, but this is where I learned the amazingly dramatic and intense dice game of 4-5-6. Here in Austin we have definitely held true to 'April showers' the past couple weeks. Spring is such an amazing time and I'm finding that my love for photography is a great way to document these changes in life. I was in Brenham Tx. at Jen's family homestead and the mood was perfect. Perfect weather, a beautiful sunset forming, cold beer in hand, and wonderful people to be with. Oh, and did I mention the amazing smell of bbq ribs on the grill? uh, yeah!!

Nature gave me some inspiration that weekend and I decided to go for a walk which led me to some of these amazing images of God's wonderful work! Thank you Seeker's for being such a wonderful second family and I'm grateful for your love and willingness to share your home with me.

Primitive Noise Concert

Their music isn't so primitive, and in fact I was pleasantly surprised when I went to shoot my friends band for one of their downtown shows. These guys all have the day jobs, but find time to live their rock and roll dreams at night! I swung by Momo's to see them for the first time a couple week's back and really liked what I heard. When working to find a location for Kasey's (posted here) head shot's she mentioned having a friend who lived downtown with a great view and was a 'super cool girl'. Both statements were spot on! Stacy Zoern opened her doors to us and in turn we glammed her up and took some head shot's for her as well. Stacy's written a book about her adventurous life called 'I Like To Run Too!' Inspiration is only one of the many words that I'm sure have been used to describe Stacy, but just in my short time of hanging out with her I found her to be contagious! Her laugh that is. With such a great outlook on life you can't find much to complain about when you get a chance to hang out with her. I'd reco checking out her book if you can...I'm in the process myself. (And I don't read books!!)

From Russia with Love!

In digging through some archives I realized I never posted images from my friends Mark and Colleen's first family portrait with their newly arrived son's. And when I say arrived they did it in style! Mark and Colleen are wonderful in many ways, (one being their amazing support for Hutto High School Football..I digress) and their huge hearts poured open when they adopted both Max and Griffin from Russia over the Christmas holiday. These little guys are just two cool kids and I know have made Mark and Colleen very happy. So without further adieu, here are the first family pictures of the Kilch's. I know I'm behind the ball a little on the senior portrait season, but I've been asking friends and family if they knew of anyone willing to let me shoot them so I can get something in my portfolio. Luckily a friend of mine introduced me to Larie who just happened to be the ideal senior...funny, quirky, beautiful, and all in all just happy! Not that there's much to be unhappy about when your 18 and in the prime of your life! Oh the days! sniffle, sniffle!

Ok, I'm back..sorry you had to witness that. Larie was a natural in front of the camera as you can easily tell. We had a great time just walking down old town Brenham and seeing what kind of trouble we could get into. Apparently it's a hefty penalty to do anything on a working railroad track. But rebels will be rebels!

Jake and Melanie - Wedding

These kids are amazingly in love and show it every day! I'm grateful to have them as clients, but more importantly blessed to have them as friends. Joy of Motherhood!

It's truly a small world we live in and it's always nice when something or someone crosses your path that you thought was a world away. I'm from the Texas Panhandle (land of dust storms and tumbleweeds) and consider myself one of I'm sure few people who think they had a pretty good high school experience. I always find it great to find old crony's from the Rebel vault on Facebook and reconnect. All that to be said..I found Sophie on FB a while back and realized we were living in the same town, but never caught up. Shame on us! Well when she was coming close to having her precious baby boy, Parker, she asked if I would shoot her maternity pictures.

It was great to catch up and hear how her and Dan (both hometown kid's) have been living the dream life and just loving each other every day! They are super cute together and Dan is by far one of the funniest people I know. Always has been.

Full Circle

For any photographer's who worry about where their next client is coming from I share this story for you. I'm learning in my short time doing this that it isn't 100% dependant on where you place your online ad's or how many samples you leave with other wedding vendors. If we are focused on building relationships and caring about our work as a passion the clients will come full circle.

I met Jessica as a favor to a friend who needed his employees to get updated head shots for their marketing materials. She came in with a beautiful smile and awesome attitude and we just clicked. She later asked if I would do a portrait of her and her sister for a holiday gift to their parents. She brought along her boyfriend Josh who had just gotten back from serving our country overseas and we spent an afternoon just hanging out and taking these great pictures below.

Soon after the holiday's I met Jessica to give her these images and she let me know that Josh had proposed to her. With what seemed like no hesitation she asked if I would be her photographer and I was honored to say yes. I never would have imagined meeting someone one day and foreseeing I would have the opportunity to follow them through several special moments and capture it doing something I love to do. But that's what this is all about for me...making lasting relationships that allow me to document history with my artistic flair (and yes I used the word flair).

Beauty and the Bride!!

So I'm in the middle of editing an amazing wedding for Melanie and Jake which should be done in the next couple weeks. I met Melanie in Dallas a couple weeks prior to the special day for the bridal portrait sesssion! I haven't shot in Dallas often (ok...this was my first formal shoot there) so I didn't have a lot of locations picked out for us. After leaning on the all-saving internet tool - Google - I came across the SMU campus as a possiblity. Well the stars aligned that day as the late afternoon sun was shining down on this amazing campus and every corner we turned there was some amazing locations..see below. She came looking beautiful as always and I'm sure you'd agree that her now husband is one lucky man!

Upcoming New Year!

Can you believe that "twenty-ten" is only days away? I'm not sure where the year has gone, but I'm sad to see it leave. 2009 has been a substantial growth year for JWP...we booked our first official wedding and shot a total of four weddings during the year. Word of mouth has been a blessing this year which led to tons of family and self portrait sessions. Thank you everyone who booked JWP to help capture your memories for you.

For the upcoming year I'm making a very important resolution! For those of you who follow my work and where I'm going I'm making a much needed commitment to update this blog and my social networking sites (twitter and facebook) more often. I will be making at very least one blog post a week...and yes that's a commitment to 52 posts! I want to start this new decade off with a commitment to my customers both past and future by sharing my recent shoots and giving you all insight into how they took place.

I sincerely thank you all for your support and following me through this journey of love. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year's Eve and wake up to a blessed and fullfilled New Year!

Family Time!

With the holiday's coming up it's always a great time to reflect on family and how much love we share. And as a portrait photographer I'm able to be witness to this love and capture it's memories. I'm going to be sharing a lot of family portraits over the next few week's, and this is a great family to start off with. Janelle and Tyson are the proud parents of these two cuties, Audrey and Aidan and we had a great morning in the park last weekend. With Aidan running around at a thousand miles an hour and Audrey determined to get that first flip on the high bar it was super easy to catch amazing moments of the family being a loving family with laughter. Thanks to all of you for being you and just letting me hang out behind the lens. These are a few of my favorites and remember to keep checking in for other family sessions.

Melanie and Jake - Engagement

A couple weeks ago Melanie and Jake drove down from Dallas to Austin for their engagement shoot. I didn't really have a specific path planned for us other than us heading downtown to see what we could find. They two were super fun and open to ANYTHING..including dirty, stinky, alleys and oncoming traffic. So here are some of the images from our shoot and I'm just so happy they came in town. It was a great time and I can easily tell that these two are madly in love. See you guys in December!

JWP had the distinct pleasure of spending the weekend with a crew (and I do mean CREW!) of Hemmens and Wickams for Kim and Madison’s wedding in early August, where family and friends abounded. There were a ton of laughs had with this laid back bunch, along with sweet tears of joy and remembrance. With Kim’s brother officiating an amazingly heartfelt wedding ceremony, Madison’s dad joining the band on stage for a couple of blues jams, and sweet wagons full of precious baby nieces and nephews – this truly was a reminder of how much it means to be a part of something special….FAMILY! Thanks Kim and Madison for letting us be an extended part of yours on such a special day.

What do you Care about?

I had the good fortune last week to volunteer my services to an amazing organization that I just haven't found a way to work with directly since I found out about them. They are The Care Communities and depend on volunteers to come together as a "Care Team" to support and love on individuals who are living with AIDS or fighting cancer.

They recently put on their Annual iCare Gala at the TDS Exotic Game Ranch which was super nice and honored three community leaders with awards for their support and work towards helping Care Communities fulfill their mission.

Here are some of the pictures from the evening and some of the items auctioned off during the evening. I hope those of you reading will at least take a look at the work CC is doing at very least as a reminder that there are always people who can use our help..we just need to be willing to give it sometimes.

Shhh...it's a secret!

I've been part of a men's small group for a couple years now and can say with confidence I have a great group of guys that support me in my spiritual growth. And in turn I was honored to support my friend Gary and his beautiful bride Bailey by documenting their 'secret' wedding.

They had told both sets of parents that they were going to a tropical paradise to tie the knot and were very apologetic that none of their family would be there to participate. Well they kept that story going up until the very moment they walked into the room that was supposed to be a going away dinner for them. Since they were getting on the plane the next morning with beach towels and sunscreen in tote.

Little to say everyone was just a little shocked when they saw Bailey in a wedding dress walking arm and arm with her Dad (who was in on it at the last moment). All in all it was a great evening of family and excitement..oh and great food!!

Thanks for letting me be a part of the 'secret' and you both are beautiful together!

Such an adorable little lady! It was great to see Clark and finally meet his wife Kasey. Horrible we live in the same town and haven't caught up till now! Shame on us. But what a great reason to meet so we could capture this little one's recent birthday. We're still gonna meet up for that sushi payment soon! Hope you guys are staying out of this Austin heatwave! Thank you so much to both Sharon and Tom for letting me be a part of their special day! These guys know how to have fun...even if in the hottest part of the day on a stunning yet windy cliffside. They chose the amazing hill country views of Chapel Dulcinea to have their ceramony and reception. Family and friends showed up from all around to show their love for these two.

Gig'em Aggies!

So I know I've been very slackerish on updating my posts. And I'm finally getting around to posting my favorite shoot to date of Any and Daniel on my alumni campus of Texas A&M! Not only are these two gorgeous and tons of fun, but they allowed me to do something I've always wanted to do.....lie on the 50 yard line of Kyle Field Stadium and bask in the sun! Or clouds on this particular muggy day!

These kids are getting married the day after Christmas so I'm super excited to see how they get down and enjoy their crazy night!

I can't say enough about this guy! We met over 8 years ago in a training class for Dell Inc., and he's been a great friend ever since. So when he asked me if I would take some pictures of him for a brochure he's putting together for his new realty company, I could only answer yes! We had a great time cruising around the Star Ranch golf course trying to find the best shots. Seeker was a trooper driving her own cart and not knowing really the course ettiquette! And she even got behind the camera to take a couple of 'dude shots' that I had to stand in for. Great work Jen!

All in all there was only one little scare, when I thought I lost the flash card that had EVERY shot from the course on it! Thank God I found it though!

This guy's an amazing man and if you are looking for a house or selling in the Dallas metroplex area I highly recommend him. He's the utmost professional and pretty darn funny to boot!

Cadillac Ranch!

Hey everyone! I know it's been a while since my last post and I have no excuses except pure laziness. I've been staying pretty busy over the past couple months and am finally making the time to sit down and post some updates.

A little backstory: I was raised in the Texas Panhandle town of Amarillo, for which we were bestowed the artistic vision of a man named Stanley Marsh, III. Three years before I was born, (I'm not telling my age) he decided to put 10 classic cadillac's nose first into the ground at an angle equal to the Great Pyramid of Giza along the historic Route 66 Hwy. This art piece has ever since been a stopping point for tourist's world wide and remains today an icon of my hometown.

I got a chance to go home and see the madre in April and just happened to drive into town around sunset. I thought it was about time to get in my artistic approach at these trashed out icons, so I picked up mom and we headed out to the Ranch.

These are some of my favorite shots from the short 30 min I had before the sun set.

Two out of three isn't bad for this East Coast transplant family's first visit to the Big B. The DelBene's made the trip down from Austin to see for themselves what the Texas wildflower hullabaloo was all about. What an amazing backdrop those bluebonnets were for this uber attractive family...and I dare say, they weren't disappointed by the flowers or the ice cream that followed! Thanks Dave & Blythe for having such great genes.

She's Ready for the Pro Tour!

This bright eyed three year old beauty was the consummate master in front of the camera. Calm, cool, collected, and how CUTE are those baby blues!? Even though Avery and her daddy may have plans for her Pro Tour to be the LPGA (she has her own set of golf clubs - red ones, she told me), I dare say that she could be a professional in another arena. The camera loves her!

We weren't looking for stars at night, but did get to spend a morning with these two Twinkles of Love in bluebonnet country a couple of weekends ago. The amazing pics that came from our field romp couldn't better reflect the sweet, hilarious, independently spirited, and cherished moments with two of JWP's all time favorites - Riley and Hayden.
